During the years 2009-2011 I was given the opportunity to be a part of the Universe Quest program. This was an afterschool program for middle-school girls in Oakland, California. The program was funded through a grant from National Science Foundation with Dr. Carl Pennypacker, PI. It was carried out in collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Northern California and other Bay Area agencies. I spent the majority of my time writing curriculum for the program and was a part-time teacher.
Assembling and testing out Galileoscopes:
The photos below were taken during one of our "Family Nights" where the girls presented their work to their parents and siblings. They were also led in group activities by Suzy Guyton of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.
